Westminster College's baseball team fell to Mississippi University for Women (MUW) 7-4 in the first game of the doubleheader at CCA Field in Columbus, MS. The Blue Jays (16-20, 8-9 SLIAC) struggled early against the MUW offense.
MUW (19-14, 14-3 SLIAC) opened the scoring in the third with a three run home run, for an early 3-0 lead. Westminster responded in the fifth, tying the game at 3-3. Keli'i Price's RBI walk, followed by Troy Romero's single and a wild pitch, allowed the Blue Jays to pull even. However, MUW answered in the bottom of the sixth with a series of key hits to make it 7-3, leaving Westminster with little room for error.
Westminster managed to score once more in the eighth when Aden Pecka singled in a run, but it wasn't enough to mount a full comeback. The Blue Jays ended with 8 hits but struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving 11 men on base.
