Blue Jays Fall to Fontbonne in Game Three, 12-7

The Westminster baseball team closed out the three-game conference series with Fontbonne University with a 12-7 loss. The loss brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. 

The first two innings remained scoreless, but with two outs in the top of the third and two runners on base, junior Nick Cessna hit a RBI single to bring in senior Deion Hughes. An error on the play also brought in junior Connor Hager and advanced Cessna to second. Another Fontbonne error on the following play brought it Cessna, and a sophomore Blake Strebler RBI single through the right side brought in sophomore Nick Bohlmann. A ground out ended the inning, but the Blue Jays scored four to take a 4-0 lead. 

Fontbonne put up two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Blue Jays added another run in the fifth inning with a RBI ground out by junior Nolan Bax.

In the bottom of the fifth, Fontbonne brought in six runs off three singles and a walk to take the lead, 8-5. They added three more runs in the seventh inning to go up 11-5.

The Blue Jays scored on a Hager RBI ground out in the top of the eighth. Fontbonne added a run off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to bring the game to 12-6.

In the top of the ninth, Westminster's freshman Mikey Williams had a ground out RBI to score Bohlmann. The Blue Jays were unable to score again, ending the game with a 12-7 loss. 

The Blue Jays host non-conference Robert Morris University-Peoria for a three-game series starting on Friday, March 18. A single, nine-inning game will take place on Friday starting at 5:00 pm at Saucier Field. On Saturday, the doubleheader starts at noon.
