Westminster Drops Conference Doubleheader to Blackburn

4/10/25 Fulton, MO - The Westminster softball team came up short in a conference doubleheader against Blackburn on Wednesday, falling 3-1 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2. 

In the first game, the Blue Jays struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities despite a strong outing from pitcher Peityn Thomas, who threw a complete game, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while striking out one. Blackburn scored twice in the third and added another run in the fifth, while Westminster's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Chloe Ferguson tripled and later scored on a Kendall Weber RBI single to put Westminster on the board. Ellie Bedsworth had a solid performance at the plate, going 2-for-3. 

In Game 2, the Blue Jays outhit Blackburn 8-4 but couldn't overcome a three-run first inning by the Beavers. Madison Plybon took the loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work, while Payton Dudenhoeffer tossed three scoreless innings in relief. Westminster's only run came in the sixth when Kendall Weber and Paige Cruzan led off with back-to-back singles. Weber later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Raigan McKee. Bedsworth continued her strong day at the plate, going 3-for-3 in the second game. 

With the losses, Westminster looks to regroup as they head into another conference matchup on the road against Lyon on Sunday, April 13.
