03/25/2025 Elsah, IL- On Tuesday, March 25th, Westminster College's baseball team dominated both games of their doubleheader against Principia College, securing impressive victories in each. The Blue Jays showcased a relentless offense and strong pitching throughout the day, taking game one 17-2 and following it up with a 17-9 win in the second game. With both wins, Westminster improved to 11-10 overall and maintained their perfect conference record at 4-0. The team's balanced performance on both sides of the ball set the tone for a successful day on the diamond.
Game 1 Recap: Westminster 17, Principia 2
Westminster College's baseball team kicked off their doubleheader on March 25th, with a dominant 17-2 victory over Principia College. The Blue Jays quickly gained control in the second inning, scoring two runs thanks to timely hits and capitalizing on Principia's defensive miscues. Keli'i Price and Donovan Bohler led off with base hits, and Troy Romero helped bring in the first two runs of the game.
Westminster exploded in the fourth inning, scoring five more runs. Domenic Nordmann's double, followed by Aden Pecka's sacrifice fly and some aggressive base running, allowed the Blue Jays to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Principia managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs off a two-RBI single from Cooper Martinez, but Westminster quickly responded with additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Offensively, Westminster was led by Romero, who drove in four runs, while Cameron Schlegl contributed three RBIs. Price and Schlegl each had two hits, and Pecka also added to the tally with an RBI. On the mound, Joshua Escobedo pitched 3.2 innings, allowing just two runs while striking out two. Salvador Moncada and Colyn Wright combined for the final 3.1 innings, holding Principia to seal the victory.
Game 2 Recap: Westminster 17, Principia 9
In the second game of the doubleheader, Westminster College secured a 17-9 victory over Principia, showcasing another high-powered offensive performance. The Blue Jays started off strong, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Beno Ballard's two-run double and Aden Pecka's RBI double put Westminster ahead early. Principia responded in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 3-3.
Westminster regained the lead in the third inning when William Crabtree's sacrifice fly brought in a run, followed by two more RBIs from Ballard and Nordmann in the fourth, putting the Blue Jays up 6-3. Principia added three runs of their own in the fifth inning to tie the game at 7-7, but Westminster answered with four runs in the seventh, including a three-run home run from Keli'i Price, to take an 11-7 lead.
The Blue Jays continued to pour it on in the eighth, with Aidan Bryowsky hitting a two-run home run and additional runs from Romero and Crabtree, extending the lead to 17-7. Principia added two more runs in the ninth, but Westminster's offense had already sealed the game.
Offensively, Price had a standout performance with three hits, including a home run and three RBIs, while Crabtree went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Ballard added three RBIs, and the Blue Jays tallied 19 hits in total. On the mound, Blake Althuisius started but was relieved by Kaleb Hinkle-Pruett, who earned the win, throwing 3.1 innings and giving up just one earned run.
With the win, Westminster improves to 11-10 overall and 4-0 in conference play, extending their strong start to the conference season and completing the doubleheader sweep.
