ST. PAUL, Minn. - Seven student-athletes from the Westminster football team earned spots on the All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference teams, as announced on Thursday by the conference.
Junior defensive lineman Kobe Kaminski (Fulton, Mo./Fulton) earned a spot on the First Team Defense after finishing the season second in the UMAC in sacks with 7.5 and third in tackles for loss with 13. Kaminski also finished third on the team in total tackles with 46. Two of his sacks came in a 35-7 win over Iowa Wesleyan.
Sophomore kicker Tim Branneky (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran North) was voted First Team All Special Teams. Branneky went 3-4 on field goals on the season including a record-breaking 58-yard kick against Minnesota-Morris that broke school and conference records and was the longest kick in NCAA Division III this season. All three of his field goals were from 40-plus yards.
The Blue Jays had two offensive players named to the Second Team in freshman wide receiver Travion Mosby (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) and senior offensive lineman Sam Poole (Hartsburg, Mo./Southern Boone).
Mosby had a breakout season that saw him haul in 49 passes for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 11 touchdowns were the third-most in the conference. Mosby caught multiple touchdowns in three games including a three-touchdown performance against St. Scholastica.
Poole was a leader on the Westminster offensive line and helped the Blue Jays offense average 311 yards per game. Behind the Poole anchored offensive line, the Blue Jays ran for over 100 yards in seven of their 10 games and topped 200 rushing yards in twice. This is the second all-conference nod for Poole, who also received Second Team honors in 2017.
Three Blue Jays were named to the Second Team Defense, including senior nose tackle Clayton Bristol (Fulton, Mo./Fulton) and sophomore linebackers Logan Decker (Owensville, Mo./Owensville) and Ben Heimann (Moberly, Mo./Moberly). The trio helped lead a Westminster defense that finished third in the UMAC allowing just 106.2 yards per game.
Bristol, who was a Second Team pick in 2017, made 24 tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles on the season. He also broke up two passes from his defensive tackle position.
Decker totaled 40 tackles good for fourth on the team and recorded 2.5 sacks. He also scored Westminster's only defensive touchdown of the season with a 20-yard pick-six against Iowa Wesleyan.
Heimann led the Blue Jays in tackles with 60 and finished second in tackles for loss with 6.5 for -17 yards. Heimann also intercepted a pass and blocked an extra point on the season.
In addition to the seven student-athletes selected to the All-Conference teams, junior Ben Holt (Butler, Mo./Butler) earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship team for his excellent display for sportsmanship over the course of the season.
