Balanced Attack Leads Westminster Men's Basketball Over Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS - Westminster men's basketball earned a quality win on the road at Fontbonne, overcoming the Griffins 70-54.

The Blue Jays improve to 10-10 on the year and 9-4 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, in third place. 

Westminster opened the game in dominant fashion, with a 14-0 run over the first five minutes of the game. The first nine points of the game included a point from each of the five Westminster starters. 

The Blue Jays slowed down over the next five minutes, but maintained their strong lead over the Griffins. With just over 10 minutes to play, Romo Tabb knocked down a three-point play to take the 21-7 lead. 

The Griffins came back within single digits over the next several minutes, taking advantage of a 10-4 run. Westminster answered with a 9-2 run of their own to bring their lead back up to 15. Another 9-2 for Westminster closed out the half with the Blue Jays' largest lead of the game at 43-23.

The Griffins pulled back within 15, but Westminster never let up their lead enough to let Fontbonne back in the game, going up by as many as 21 in the final minutes of the game. 

Kobe Wands led the Blue Jays with 12 points, followed by 11 from Stu Hollandsworth and 10 from Collin Caywood

Westminster stays on the road, traveling to Spalding Saturday for a 3 p.m. CT tipoff.
