Blue Jays Clipped By Scots

Batesville, AR 1/18/2024- The Westminster College men's basketball team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas to take on the Lyon College Scots. The Blue Jays fell to the Scots 96-82. Lyon improves to 9-7 on the season and 6-2 in the SLIAC, good for 2nd in the standings. Westminster falls to 2-14 on the year and 2-7 in the conference. 

The Scots got off to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. They would grow the lead to 20-9 before Walker Gohring hit a three to stop the bleeding and the Blue Jays would go on a little run. Brennan Jeffries would make a three to get Westminster back within five at 30-25, with 5 minutes left to go in the first half. Lyon ended the half on a 16-9 run to take a 46-39 lead at the half. 

After the break, Lyon would start the half by scoring seven unanswered points to make it 53-39. The Scots would grow their lead to a game-high 21 points at 71-52 with 10 minutes left to play. The Blue Jays would continue to fight and strung together a run to get back within 15, but it would be too little too late as the Scots won the game 96-82. 

Brennan Jeffries led the Blue Jays offense with 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Aaron Poage and Luke Abeln would both score 12 points coming off the bench. Walker Gohring had 11 points and 4 assists. 

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, January 20th when they take on the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. The scheduled start time for the game is 3:30 PM.
