Nordmann Powers Blue Jays To Sweep

Fulton, Mo 4/27/2024- The Westminster College baseball team hosted the Mississippi University for Women Owls (MUW) on Saturday. They would need extra innings to decide a winner in game 1. Domenic Nordmann hit a walk-off 2-run home in the bottom of the 11th to put the Blue Jays on top 6-5. The Blue Jays would win game 2, 8-0 to complete the sweep of the Owls. Westminster improves to 15-21 on the season and 8-8 in the SLIAC and moves into 4th place in the conference heading into the final weekend. MUW falls to 20-13 on the year and 10-6 in the SLIAC. They are tied for 3rd place currently.  

Game One: Box Score 

  • The Owls jumped out to a quick 2-run lead in the top of the 1st inning and would extend the lead to 3-0 after scoring a run in the top of the 3rd inning.  

  • Westminster would get on the board after Troy Romero hit a 2-run home run to right field to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  

  • Both teams would trade runs in the 4th inning with the Owls leading 4-3 after Domenic Nordmann hit a home run in the bottom of the inning.  

  • Hunter Pethan would tie the game, 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th after scoring on a wild pitch.  

  • The Owls would score off a wild pitch in the top of the 11th to make it 5-4.  

  • Nordmann would step to the plate in the bottom of the 11th with Aden Pecka on 2nd base after drawing a walk and then stealing scored. Nordmann would call the game as he blasted the walk-off 2 run home to right center field to win the game for the Blue Jays, 6-5.  

  • Derek Archer would go 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and 1 strikeout. Kobe Allen would come in the 7th inning and went 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 4 batters. Allen would get the win, his 1st of the season.

Troy Romero: 3-4, 2 RBIs, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 HR  

Aden Pecka: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 R, 3 BB  

Game Two: Box Score 

  • The Blue Jays would put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead. They would plate 2 more in the 7th and went on to win the game 8-0.  

  • Domenic Nordmann hit a 2-run home run in the 7th, his 3rd home run of the day.  

  • Bode Gebbink got the win, improving to 5-6 on the year after going 7 innings, giving up no runs on 4 hits, striking out 5 batters.  

  • Gebbink would reach the 200-career innings milestone in the game, tying him for 4th all-time.  

  • Charlie Schweppe pitched the final 2 innings to finish out the game. He would strike out 2 and give up 1 hit.

The Blue Jays will be back in action when they host the Greenville University Panthers in the season finale and senior day on Saturday, May 4th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
