Fulton, MO, 10/6/21 – The Westminster College Blue Jay men's soccer team came into Wednesday night's home match-up with conference leaders the Webster University Gorloks in need of a good outing. They were losers of two straight and needed to get back in the win column. It would not be tonight as the Gorloks scored in the fourth minute and added three more goals on the way to a 4-0 win. The loss drops the Blue Jays to 2-7-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks improve to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the SLIAC.
Webster would score in the fourth minute, 39th minute and 43rd minute of the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead at the half. They would add a goal in the early part of the second half in the 50th minute to make up the final score of 4-0.
The Gorloks outshot the Blue Jays 16-4 for the game and 10-2 in shots on goal. The Gorloks had four corner kicks to the Blue Jays one. The Blue Jays were whistled for 8 fouls compared to the Gorloks five.
Conner Benefield (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) started in goal. He would go 45 minutes facing six shots on goal and making three saves. Freshman Toby Hughes (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) would tend the net in the second 45 minutes. He would face two shots on goal and make one save.
The Blue Jays will be back at home on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest against the Eureka College Red Devils. The day will also serve as Senior Day for the seven Blue Jay seniors.
