Fulton, MO, 9/7/21 – The Westminster College Blue Jays men's soccer team saw improvement on Wednesday night, unfortunately that improvement didn't mean victory for the young Blue Jays. They lost 1-0 to their crosstown neighbors from the NAIA, the William Woods University Owls.  The Blue Jays fall to 0-3 in the early season while the Owls improve to 1-4.

The Blue Jays controlled most of the game with a relentless attack that saw them outshot the Owls 16-6 overall and 10-3 in shots on goal.  The Blue Jays earned 14 corner kicks to five for the Owls.  Despite all of this pressure, the Blue Jays just could not get a shot past the William Woods keeper.

The lone goal of the game came in the 17th minute on a quick counter attack when the Owls played a ball to Sam Allen who had one man to beat down the right side of the field and he did just that and his shot beat Blue Jay keeper sophomore Conner Benefield (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) to just inside of the far post.   Benefield split time in net taking the first 45 minutes and sophomore Chris Lannom (Forney, TX / Forney) took the second half.  Benefield made two saves and Lannom made one.

The Blue Jay attack was led by sophomore midfielder Nolan Deane (Eureka, MO / Eureka) who took three shots and put to of those on goal.  The Blue Jays will be back in action on September 10th as they travel to Wisconsin to take on Ripon College in the Jays last non-conference matchup of the season. The game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. kick off.
