Blue Jays Fall At Blackburn

Carlinville, IL, 10/2/21 – The Blue Jays men's soccer team traveled to Carlinville, Illinois Saturday morning to take on the Blackburn College Beavers.  The Blue Jays were looking to get off of a two game slide. The going was tough in Illinois as the Beavers cashed in two first half goals en route to 3-0 victory over the Blue Jays.  With the loss the Blue Jays drop to 2-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the SLIAC.  The Beavers improve to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays outshot the Beavers 20-17 for the game and the two teams got seven shots on goal each.The Beavers took one more corner kick than the Jays 5-4. The Beavers were whistled for eight fouls to the Blue Jays seven fouls.  The difference was the play of the Blackburn goalkeeper who saved all seven shots on goal that he faced.

Conner Benefield (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) started in goal for the Jays and went the distance.  He allowed three goals and made four saves.  Joe Wilder (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) and Freddy Nene (Columbia, MO / Rock Bridge) each took three shots to lead the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday October 6th at home when they welcome Webster University to town.  The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. kick off.
