Blue Jays Welcome Owls To SLIAC

Fulton, Mo 10/6/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team welcomed the Mississippi University for Women to Fulton for the first time. The Blue Jays would defeat the Owls 3-0 and improve to 1-2 in the SLIAC and 2-8 overall on the season. The Owls fall to 1-2-1 and 2-7-3 overall on the year. 

Niklas Olsson would score first on a beautiful goal to put the Blue Jays up 1-0 in the 13th minute. Jack Hughes would find Olsson after a through ball from midfield to get the assist as Olsson was streaking down the right side of the field. 

The Blue Jays would strike again in the 22nd minute as Jack Hughes would put another through ball into the box and this time, he would find Adam Luetkemeyer and put him one on one with the Owls goalie. Luetkemeyer would deposit the goal in the bottom right corner to extend the Blue Jays lead to 2-0. 

Luetkemeyer would score an insurance goal in the second half and lead the Blue Jays to a 3-0 victory. 

Westminster would take sixteen shots in the game with twelve of them being on goal. The Blue Jay defense would hold the Owls attack to seven shots and only three of them were on goal. Connor Benefield would get the start in goal for the Blue Jays, and he would stop all three shots he faced. 

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday, October 11th as they travel to take on Greenville University. The kick-off is set for 5:00 PM.
