Blue Jays Finish Fourth At SLIAC Indoor Championships

Elsah, IL, 2/26/2022 – The Westminster College Blue Jay men's track and field team travelled to Principia College on Saturday for the SLIAC Indoor Championships.  The Blue Jays saw senior DeAndre White (Salisbury, Mo. / Salisbury R-4) record a second-place podium finish in the shot put that helped lead the men's team to a fourth-place finish in the championships.

White recorded a throw of 11.76 meters on his first attempt of the day in the shot put and that mark stood up to allow him to finish second place and scored eight points for the Jays. White would also compete in the weight throw event and finished in seventh place with a throw of 11.21 meters which accounted for two more points for the team.

Freshman thrower Tucker Brown (Cuba, Mo / Cuba) finished in fourth place in the shot put with a mark of 10.54 meters on his final throw that catapulted him from sixth into fourth.  He scored five points for the team.

Freshman middle distance runner Michael Giles (Pleasant Hill, Ill. / Pleasant Hill) would finish in seventh place in the one mile run with a time of 4:55.257 scoring two points for the team.  Giles would also finish in seventh place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.145 scoring two more points for the Blue Jays.

Junior distance runner Jacob Marshall (Columbia, Mo. / Hallsville) competed in the one mile run and finished 14th with a time of 5:23.890. Marshall also competed in the 3,000 meters finishing in 12th place with a time of 11:08.640.

Freshman distance runner Lane Martin (Lexington, Mo / Lexington) competed in the one mile run finishing in 15th place with a time of 5:41.751.  Martin also competed in the 3,000 meters finishing in 13th place with a time of 11:26.387.

That completes the Indoor portion of the Blue Jays schedule.  They will be in action next on Saturday March 19th as they open the outdoor season at the CMU Open in Fayette, Missouri.
