LEXINGTON, Ky. - Westminster women's basketball fell to Transylvania in the championship game of the Pat Deacon Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Blue Jays fall to 3-2 with the loss.

"We did some really good things in a tough environment," said Westminster Head Coach James Arnold. "We gave ourselves a chance right up until the end, and we did a great job with our defensive game plan. Credit to Transylvania for making it tough for us to score."

Westminster got out to a hot start, scoring five points in their first two possessions of the game on a three-pointer from Kendahl Adams and a layup from Grace Archambault. 

Transylvania ended the quarter by hitting three straight three-pointers to go up 19-12 after 10 minutes of play. 

The Blue Jays opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take the lead back 20-19 with an Adams three-pointer at the 7:43 mark. After two ties and three lead changes in the remaining minutes of the half, Westminster came out on top 30-28 after one half of play. 

Westminster took its biggest lead of the day on a three-pointer from Payton Beeler with just over four minutes left in the third quarter for a 41-32 lead. Transylvania hit two three-pointers down the stretch to cut the Westminster lead back to 45-42 after three quarters. 

Transylvania took back the lead with just under eight minutes to play and Westminster was not able to regain the lead to take the win.

Adams led all scorers with 18 points, adding seven rebounds. Adams was named to the All-Tournament team. Mikalyn Callahan added 10 points for the Blue Jays. 

"This tournament was great for growth and development as a team," said Arnold. "Now we use these experiences and take the film back to learn and prep for a big week of conference games."

Westminster returns home to open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday against Webster at 6 p.m.
