Women's Basketball: Blue Jays Host Webster University Preview

Fulton, Mo. - The Westminster College Blue Jay women's basketball team will be in action today at home in Historic Gym.  Head Coach Talisha Washington and her team will be taking on the defending SLIAC champs, the Webster University Gorlocks in a 1:00 p.m. tip off. This will be the Blue Jays third game of SLIAC play.

Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (4-1, 2-0 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are coming off of four straight wins, the last of which was an 88-68 come from behind win on the road at Iowa Wesleyan.
  • The Blue Jays are led in scoring by Reese Arnold at 21.8 PPG, Avylina Powel-Qualo 13.0 PPG and Kallee Dowler 10.2 PPG and Madison Schaeffer with 9.6 PPG.
  • Powel-Qualo leads the Blue Jays in rebounding at 9.0 RPG followed by Schaeffer with 8.4 RPG.
  • Arnold leads the team averaging 2.2 assists per game followed by Schaeffer with 2.0 APG.
  • Shelby Kurtz and Dowler lead the team in steals at 1.0 SPG each.
  • After three games the Blue Jays are averaging 83.6 PPG while shooting 43.4% from the field, 37.1% from the three-point line and 66.3% from the free throw line.
  • The all-time series between Westminster and Webster is tied 31-31.

 Taking a look at the Webster University Gorlocks (1-1, 1-1 SLIAC):

  • Webster was picked 1st in the SLIAC Pre-season Coaches Poll.
  • The Gorlocks come into today's game after picking up their first win of the season at home vs. Spalding University 86-63 this past Wednesday.
  • The Gorlocks are led in scoring by Julie Baudendistel at 21.0 PPG and Addison Beussink with 14.0 PPG.  Hannah Cottrell chips in 13.5 PPG
  • The Gorlocks leading rebounders are Beussink at 8.0 RPG followed by Lauryn Freeman and Baudendistel with 5.0 RPG each.
  • Cottrell leads the Gorlocks in assists with 5.5 APG
  • Amaya Baker leads the team in steals per game with 4.0 SPG.  Freeman and Cottrell each contribute 3.0 SPG.
  • Webster swept the season series last year winning at Webster 86-66 and then at Westminster 73-52.
