Fulton, Mo., March 9, 2021 - The Westminster College Blue Jay women's basketball team advanced to the SLIAC Conference Tournament Semifinals with an 85-69 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.   The high-powered Blue Jays offense took a bit to get going on Wednesday but a 31-point fourth quarter carried the day.  The Blue Jays will need more of that on Friday night against the #3 seeded Greenville University Panthers.  The semifinal game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.  See the SLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal Recaps HERE.

Taking a look at the #2 Westminster College Blue Jays (10-3, 7-2 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are coming off of a quarterfinal home win over the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers 85-69.
  • The Blue Jays won the only meeting between the two schools during the regular season at Greenville University 84-67
  • The Blue Jays are led in scoring by Reese Arnold at 16.7 PPG, Avylina Powel-Qualo 13.3 PPG, Abbie Reece at 9.6PPG and Shelby Kurtz 8.6 PPG.
  • Powel-Qualo leads the Blue Jays in rebounding at 8.1 RPG followed by Madison Schaeffer with 7.5 RPG.  Abby Nichols chips in 6.5 RPG.
  • Arnold leads the team averaging 2.7 assists per game. Schaeffer averages 2.1 APG
  • Powel-Qualo and Arnold lead the team in steals at 1.3 and 1.2 steals per game respectfully.
  • After 12 games the Blue Jays are averaging 82.3 PPG while shooting 43.8% from the field, 37.5% from the three-point line and 65.0% from the free throw line

 Taking a look at the #3 Greenville University Panthers (9-9, 6-3 SLIAC):

  • Greenville was picked 3rd in the SLIAC Pre-season Coaches Poll which is exactly where they finished.
  • The Panthers lead the all-time series 29-26.
  • The Panthers are led in scoring by Madelyn Stephen at 13.6 PPG and Emily Reinneck at 12.4 PPG.
  • The Panthers leading rebounders are Ashley Anderson at 5.2 RPG and Payten Morris at 5.7 PPG.
  • Greenville is led in assists by Lauren Eagleson with 3.2 APG and Emily Reinneck at 3.1 APG.
  • The Panthers are led in steals by Reinneck at 1.8 SPG.
  • Greenville is shooting 39.3% from the field, 30.6% from three-point range and 71.2% from the free throw line. Greenville averages 65.4 PPG and gives up 67.0 PPG.
