Blue Jays Win Big Against Red Devils

1/14/2024 Fulton, Mo- The Westminster College women's basketball team hosted the Eureka College Red Devils in the last game of their home stand. The Blue Jays would set the tone of the game early, only allowing Eureka to score one point in the first quarter, and would coast to a 75-41 victory. With the win, Westminster improved to 6-9 on the season and 4-4 in the SLIAC. Eureka falls to 4-11 on the year and 2-6 in the SLIAC. 

The Blue Jays were dominant in the first quarter, holding the Red Devils scoreless for 9:30 of the first quarter, the Red Devils would get on the board when they made a free throw with 21 seconds left in the quarter after the Blue Jays had built a 14-0 lead. 

Westminster would continue to roll in the second quarter, building their lead to 28-7. Eureka would start to make some shots and went into halftime trailing 42-19. The Red Devils would score 18 points in the quarter, their highest game scoring. 

The Blue Jays would coast to a 75-41 victory, led by Annette Ramirez, who had 13 points and 6 rebounds. It is her 6th 20-point game of the season. Avylina Powell-Qualo had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, 10 of those were defensive rebounds. Maile Peck dropped 8 points off the bench and grabbed 3 rebounds. 

Defensively, the Blue Jays forced 27 turnovers, leading to 22 points off turnovers. Westminster would out-rebound Eureka 52-29 and scored 16 second-chance points. The Blue Jays would bang down low and score 28 points in the paint. 

Westminster will be back in action on Thursday, January 18th as they start their SLIAC south sweep by taking on Lyon College. That game will tip-off at 5:30 pm from Batesville, Arkansas.
