Blue Jays Win Fourth Game In A Row

1/24/2024 Greenville, IL- The Westminster College women's basketball team traveled to Greenville, Illinois to take on the Greenville University Panthers in their third straight road game. The Blue Jays would defeat the Panthers 77-60. Westminster has won four straight games, improved to 9-9 on the season, and is 7-4 in the SLIAC. Greenville falls to 10-8 on the season and 7-4 in the SLIAC. 

The Panthers started the game with a 4-0 lead after the Blue Jays turned the ball over twice and missed a shot on their first three possessions of the game. Caragan Lockard would get the Blue Jays on the board making a free throw to make it 4-1. Both teams would go ice cold, not scoring for over two and a half minutes. Greenville would make a pair of free throws to make it 6-2. Annette Ramirez made a three-pointer to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the game, 16-15 with 1:32 remaining in the first quarter. Ramirez would make back-to-back layups to end the quarter and put the Jays up 20-17. 

Avylina Powell-Qualo started the second quarter with a bucket and a foul. She would make the free throw to put the Blue Jays up 22-17. Westminster would keep the Panthers at arm's length for the rest of the quarter. They headed to the locker room at halftime leading by four, 38-34. 

The Blue Jays started the third quarter on a 10-4 run to go up 48-38 halfway through the third quarter. Khole Wyatt would knock down free throws to extend the lead to thirteen points at 53-40 with 2:07 remaining in the quarter. The Panthers ended the quarter on a 4-0 run and headed into the fourth quarter, trailing 53-44. 

Westminster's offense would explode for 24 points in the fourth quarter as they ran away with it and won the game 77-60. 

Annette Ramirez led the way with 21 points and 4 rebounds. It is her 8th 20-point game of the season. Avylina Powell-Qualo had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. Oliva Hixson had 9 points and went 6-7 from the free throw line. 

The Blue Jays will return home as they host Blackburn College on Saturday, January 27th in the annual Coaches vs Cancer game. The game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
