SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Preview

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Soccer Tournament begins on Thursday, November 5, with two semifinal games hosted by the #1 and #2 seeds. Spalding, the #2 seed, will host #3 Westminster at 2:00 pm EST in Louisville, Ky. The #1 seeded Webster will host #4 Greenville at 6:00 pm in St. Louis. 

The two winners of the semifinal games will play in the Championship game for the NCAA automatic bid at the highest remaining seed's home site. 

Semifinals - Thursday, November 5
Game 1 - #2 Spalding hosts #3 Westminster (Louisville, Ky.) at 2 p.m.
Game 2 - #1 Webster hosts #4 Greenville (St. Louis, Mo.) at 6 p.m.
Championship Game - Saturday, November 7
Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, at higher seed

About the Blue Jays

Westminster went 9-6-1 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Westminster ranked fourth in the league in scoring this season with 48 goals, while allowing a league low 17 goals. They dropped their final regular season game, a 2-1 loss to Spalding, which snapped a three game winning streak. The Blue Jays average 17.0 shots per game, second most in the league this year.

The Blue Jays are led by a trio of young players in sophomore Morgan Henry and freshmen Courtney Whitlock and Gracie Koonce. Henry led the team with 12 goals while Whitlock led the team with nine assists and Koonce finished with seven goals. Defensively the Blue Jays are anchored by sophomore defender Abby Rockers, 2014 SLIAC Co-Defender of the Year, and junior keeper Ellen Woolsey, a 1.04 goals-against average with 48 saves and four shutouts.

  • This year's tournament field features the top four scoring team's in the SLIAC this season (Webster #1, Greenville #2, Spalding #3, and Westminster #4)
  • Webster has won the last three SLIAC Tournaments and seven overall.
  • Greenville is making their 12th appearance in the SLIAC Tournament.
  • Spalding is appearing in their first SLIAC Tournament.
  • Westminster will be making their 13th apperance in the SLIAC Tournament.
  • When Webster lost to Spalding two weeks ago it marked their first conference loss in 25 regular season games.
  • Greenville went 0-3 this year against teams in the tournament.
  • Westminster was 1-2 this year against tournament teams.
  • Spalding went 3-0 against the teams in this year's tournament.
  • Webster finished 2-1 against this year's tournament teams.
