Women's Soccer Season Comes to a Close in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The Westminster women's soccer team's history making season came to a close in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, November 14. The Westminster Blue Jays were shut out by the #7 ranked Illinois Wesleyan Titans on the Titans' home field, 7-0. 

"We played for each other rather than ourselves and that made a huge difference on the year," commented senior defender Grace Sanford on how they made it to the NCAA Tournament. 

"This team had a goal when we started the season. The team worked hard and improved to get where we wanted to," added senior midfielder Ashley Schimmel

The Blue Jays and the Titans squared off on the Titans' home field. The Titans scored three goals in the first half and four in the second. 

Westminster's senior Eileen Koppy and sophomore Morgan Henry each recorded a shot. 

Junior goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey was in goal for 83 minutes. She had six saves in net. Freshman keeper Ali Perry spent the final 6:40 in goal and recorded one save. 

When asked about what preperation it will take to get back to the NCAA Tournament next year, Coach Dyson said, "a lot of hard work and continuing to have the right attitude and coming in and approached it as a team game."

The Blue Jays end their season with a 10-7-2 overall record. They were the first team in program history to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
