ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Westminster football defeated UMAC opponent Crown 35-7 for its third conference victory of the season.
The Blue jays improve to 3-2 on the year and 3-1 in the UMAC.
"This was a statement win for us," said Westminster Head Coach John Welty. "Our offense is really starting to go for us. We can run, we can throw, and our defense was tremendous. It was easily our best game of the year."
Westminster got out to a quick start with a touchdown pass from Trent White to Matt Quarles three minutes into the game. After a seven-yard rush on first down, White completed a 28-yard pass to Quarles for the first points of a game and the Blue Jays never looked back.
Westminster started its third drive of the game at the 10:36 mark. After five rushes from Latif Adams and three passes from White, the Blue Jays finished off a 14-play, 65-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from White to Mike Washington to make the score 14-0.
After a quiet second quarter from both teams, Westminster started the second half with a bang when Adams ran for a two-yard touchdown to bring the score to 21-0.
Just minutes later, Adams again showed his dominance with a 25-yard touchdown run, putting the Blue Jays up 28-0 early in the third quarter.
Adams added his third straight touchdown run of the game in the fourth quarter to push to score to 35-0.
Crown added a score of their own late in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard run from Josh Edlund to make the final score 35-7.
Lucas Robinson led the ream in receiving yards with 83 on just two catches.
"Lucas Robinson had a great game for us," said Welty. "He had a couple of third down catches and put us in a position to score. I didn't expect it, but we were missing a couple of guys and he came up big for us."
White went 16-26 for 255 yards with two touchdowns. Adams led the team in rushing with 97 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries.
Westminster hosts Eureka Saturday at Priest Field on Homecoming Weekend at 1 p.m.
"Eureka is a good football team," said Welty. "Their strength is running the ball and our strength is stopping the run. We are starting to become a coaches' nightmare on offense. It'll be a good football game."
