DECATUR, Ill. - Westminster men's basketball registered its second win of the season over Elmhurst on 23 points from Romo Tabb.

Westminster improves to 2-0 on the year with the win. 

"I'm very proud of our guys tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "We had a quick turnaround and managed to pull out a tough win." 

The Blue Jays started the game on an 8-2 run on back-to-back jump shots from Jimmy Villalobos, who scored six of the first 11 points for Westminster. 

Elmhurst, also the Blue Jays, caught up to tie the score at 15-15 with just under 15 minutes to play. 

Romo Tabb pulled out ahead for Westminster with three unanswered points to make the score 21-17 with under 13 minutes to play in the first half. 

Despite Elmhurst managing to tie the score up at 22, Tabb and Carter Wands ensured the Westminster would keep the lead. 

With under five minutes in the first half, Westminster continued to hold a lead but couldn't quite separate from Elmhurst. A made three-pointer from Elmhurst tied the score 42-42 at the half. 

"We didn't play well defensively and had a lot of turnovers," said Mitchell. "We made just enough plays down the stretch to pull it out." 

Elmhurst struck first in the second half, but Tabb put the Blue Jays back on top with a three-pointer, lay-up, and made freethrow to jump-start the Westminster offense. 

"Romo had a phenomenal night offensively," said Mitchell. "He hit some big shots and was very aggressive." 

Tabb and Villalobos hit back-to-back three pointers at the 16-minute mark to give Westminster a 58-49. Sean O'Brien added a layup to make it an 11-point advantage for the Blue Jays. 

A 7-0 run from Elmhurst with under seven minutes remaining put them back within six, but Villalobos silenced the run with a three-pointer to get the lead back to nine. 

A three-pointer from O'Brien put the Blue Jays up 81-65, its biggest lead of the game, with just over three minutes to play. 

Elmhurst launched a 9-0 run to pull back within six with just over a minute to play, but it wasn't enough to overcome Westminster, who ended with a final score of 88-81. 

Tabb finished with 23 points and five rebounds. O'Brien ended the game with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Villalobos added 16 points and two steals. 

Westminster plays in the NWU Snyder Classic Friday, Nov. 25 against Nebraska Wesleyan.
