Blue Jay Softball Falls to No. 14 San Diego Christian

The Westminster softball team dropped two games to number 14 NAIA San Diego Christian Tuesday afternoon. The San Diego Christian Hawks short-gamed the Westminster Blue Jays in game one, 17-0. The Blue Jays held the lead in game two, but the Hawks came back to win it 7-3. The losses bring the Blue Jays to 7-9 on the season.

Despite the game one loss, the Blue Jays bounced back in game two. With two outs in the top of the first inning, sophomore Amber Tepen hit a single through the right side, and junior Erica Burney followed with a home run over the center field fence to take a 2-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the fourth, San Diego Christian scored off a home run. They added six more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead. 

Tepen led off the top of the sixth with a double to left field and was brought home with junior Alyssa Johnson's RBI single through the right side. The Blue Jays were unable to score again, ending the game with a 7-3 loss.

Junior Alyson Hahn (3-3) pitched the complete game and struck out five. The team recorded eight hits. Tepen, Burney, and Johnson each went 2-for-3 from the plate.

The Blue Jays close out their California spring break trip with a single game at Pomona-Pitzer College on Wednesday, March 30, at 4:30 pm PDT (6:30 CST).
