Greenville Sweeps Blue Jays

The Westminster softball team dropped two games to Greenville College on Monday afternoon, 6-5 and 4-0. The Blue Jays are now 14-15 on the season and 7-5 in conference play.

 

Game One

Greenville scored three runs in the first inning with a two-run homer and a RBI single. They added three more runs to take a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, junior Anne Baker scored on a wild pitch to put the Blue Jays on the board. Immediately following, junior Erica Burney hit in sophomore Amber Tepen with a RBI single. 

In the top of the sixth, junior Kat Cooper scored on a passed ball to cut Greenville's lead to 6-3.

The Blue Jays scored two runs in the seventh inning with RBI singles from senior Shannon Perrigo and junior Alyson Hahn, but a ground out left two stranded as the Blue Jays lost the game, 6-5.

Despite the loss, the Blue Jays outhit Greenville 13-11. Burney went 3-for-4 from the plate, while sophomore Leah Holthaus and Hahn each posted two hits. 

Hahn (7-6) was credited with the loss. She pitched the complete game and struck out seven. 

 

Game Two

Game two remained scoreless until Greenville hit a two out grand slam in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Jays were held to just one hit in the seven innings of play with the hit coming out of Tepen.

Perrigo (7-6) was credited the loss in the circle. She pitched the complete game and struck out three.

 

The Blue Jays return home for their remaining three doubleheaders of the season. The Blue Jays host Spalding University on Sunday, April 24, starting at 1:00 pm. The team will celebrate senior day prior to game one.
