ST. LOUIS - Westminster softball earned two wins at ABC Park against Fontbonne.
The Blue Jays improve to 12-14 overall and 12-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"It's a great feeling when your lineup is filled with go to players," said Westminster Head Coach Sara Stafford. "There is always someone you want to be up with runners on, but that person is our whole lineup. Everyone on the team is capable of coming through in big moments."
In game one, Westminster scored the first four runs of the game starting with an RBI single from Madison Washington to score Lauren Huskey. In the third, Mackenzie Myers added the second run of the game in the third, this time scoring Washington.
In the fourth, Westminster added two more runs, the first on a triple from Huskey, scoring Hannah Schroeder. Mikala Guthrie then drove in Huskey on a single.
A double from Fontbonne in the sixth kept the Griffins in the game, but Westminster added an insurance run in the seventh on a double from Madison Ingram, scoring Myers, and the Blue Jays took the win 5-2.
"Madison has a way of keeping hitters off balance and that is why she is successful," said Stafford.
Ingram took the win, pitching the complete seven innings and giving up just two runs on seven hits.
In game two, Westminster got off to a slow start, with the Griffins earning the first three runs of the game to take a 3-0 lead after three innings.
Bailee Zemiamek got the Blue Jays on the board in the fourth with a doubleto centerfield to send Guthrie and Huskey home. Westminster tied the game after Zemianek scored on a Griffin error.
The game remained tied at three runs apiece until the Blue Jays took the lead in the seventh with two doubles from Schroeder and Washington, scoring Huskey and Taylor White.
Zemianek took the win and became the second Blue Jay pitcher to pitch a complete game on the day, holding off the Griffins in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
"Bailee pitched really well and I was very impressed with the way she picked herself up from a few early errors," said Stafford. "She didn't give up and fought until the last out."
Westminster returns home for their final game of the season Saturday, facing Eureka. The Blue Jays will honor Madison Washington and manager Kayla Pilgram in between games.
