Blue Jays Fall 70-48 To Gorloks

Fulton, Mo 11/21/2023- The Westminster College women's basketball team hosted the Webster University Gorloks in the SLIAC opener. The Gorloks would win the game 70-48 and remain undefeated on the season, improving to 4-0 on the year and are now 1-0 in the conference. The Blue Jays fall to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 to start conference play. 

The game would be neck and neck from the better of the first quarter. The Gorloks would go on a 10-2 run to take a 16-8 lead, with 3:20 remaining in the first and maintained that lead to take a 20-13 lead into the second quarter. 

The Blue Jays would get to work in the second quarter, cutting into Webster's lead. Annette Ramirez made a basket and got fouled on the shot with 1:23 remaining in the half. After making the free throw, she would cut the Gorlok lead to just three points at 26-23. On the next possession, the Gorloks would make a three to get their lead back up to six points. They would have a 31-25 lead at halftime. 

After the break, Westminster started the third quarter scoring four straight points to start the second half, making it a two points game at 31-29. The Gorloks would outscore the Blue Jays 20-8 run and had a 51-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Webster would continue to extend their lead and won the game 70-48. 

The Gorloks defense forced the Blue Jays to turn the ball over 33 times in the game that resulted in them scoring 35 points off turnovers. The Gorloks shot 41% from the field and the Blue Jays shot 29%. Both teams would make 2 three pointers in the game. Webster went 18-26 from the free throw line and Westminster would go 16-23. 

Annette Ramirez, who had 13 points and 4 rebounds in the game, led the Blue Jays. Aly Bullock also scored in double figures, scoring 11 points in the game, and grabbed 4 rebounds. 

Westminster takes a break over the Thanksgiving holiday and will be back in action on Tuesday, November 28th when they take on cross-town William Woods University. It will be Serve-Adopt a family game and tip-off is set to take place at 5:30 p.m.
