Powell-Qualo Leaps To High Jump Title As Blue Jays Finish Ninth At Bearcat Classic

Lebanon, IL, 4/9/2022 – The Westminster College womens track and field team came into the McKendree University Bearcat Classic looking to make some noise in a meet that featured five other SLIAC schools. Strong performances by Avylina Powell-Qualo (Republic, MO / Republic) and Moenasia Sidique (Mexico, MO / Mexico) would do just that as the Blue Jays finished with 19 points to finish in ninth place out of 14 teams that scored points and finished third among the SLIAC teams. The Blue Jays were just one point behind conference foe Webster University.

Powell-Qualo would get her first high jump championship of the season. The 2021 NCAA Qualifier would clear a season best 1.62 meters (5' 3.75) on her final attempt to claim first place in the event. Powell Qualo would also run the 100 meters finishing in tenth place with a time of 13.11. Sidique would compete in the 400-meter run, 200 meter run and as a member of the Blue Jay 4 x 100 relay team. Sidique broke her own school record that she set earlier in the season running a 1:00.20 time in finishing fourth overall. In the 200-meter run, Sidique would finish in eighth place with a time of 26.97 seconds. Sidique and Powell-Qualo would team with Gracie Hamrick (Versailles, MO / Versailles) and Kelsie Speichinger (Mendon, MO / Northwestern) in the 4 x 100-meter relay. The Blue Jays ran a 53.25 to finish in eighth place.

Speichinger would also compete in the 100-meter race finishing 27th with a time of 14.14. Hamrick would also compete in the 200-meter run and finished with a time of 29.35.

The Blue Jays will be back on the track on Friday April 15 when they compete in the Greenville Select Meet at Greenville University.
