Elsah, IL, 2/26/2022 – The Westminster College women's track and field team competed Saturday in the 2022 SLIAC Indoor Championships at Principia College. Freshman Sprinter Moenasia Sidique (Mexico, MO / Mexico) turned in a record-breaking performance in winning the 400-meter run and finishing fifth in the 200-meter run on her way to being named the SLIAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Track Newcomer of the Year! The performance helped guide the Blue Jays to a fifth-place finish.
Sidique ran the 400-meter run in a time of 1:02.7. The time breaks the Westminster record time of 1:03.03 set by Taylor Howard in 2018. Sidique also finished in fifth place in the 200-meter run with a time of 28.29. that finish earned the team four points.
Sophomore sprinter Gracie Hamrick (Versailles, Mo. / Versailles) finished in ninth place in the 200 meters with a time of 30.89 seconds. Hamrick also competed in the 60-meter run finishing ninth with a time of 8.95 seconds.
Junior thrower Emily Nelson (St. Louis, Mo. / Timberland) recorded a 12th place finish in the shot put with a mark of 6.82 meters.
That completes the Indoor portion of the Blue Jays schedule. They will be in action next on Saturday March 19th as they open the outdoor season at the CMU Open in Fayette, Missouri.
