Hanover, IN 9/16/2022- The Westminster volleyball team traveled to Indiana to compete in the 2022 Hanover College Invitational. They played Berea College in game one and lost in five sets (25-23, 19-25,18-25, 25-20, 12-15). In game two, they faced Adrian College and would lose in three sets (19-25,24-26,23-25). With the losses, they fall to 6-5 on the season.
Game one: Vs Berea College
The Blue Jays won set one 25-23, then would lose the next two sets (19-25,18-25), win set four (25-20), and when would lose a nail bitter in the fifth set (12-15).
Malena Bixby (New Berlin, IL/ New Berlin) and Haley Menke (O'Fallon, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt West) led the Blue Jay offense with thirteen kills each. Setter Kate Rable (Saint Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt South) had twenty-seven assists. Gracie Henrikson ( Athens, IL / Athens) picked up twenty-nine digs.
Game two: Vs Adrian College
After a quick break, the Blue Jays would switch courts to take on Adrian College in game number two of the night. They would drop three straight sets to the Bulldogs (19-25,24-26,23-25).
Bixby would have twelve kills in the match. Caitlyn Wheadon (St.Charles, MO / Francis Howell North) led the team in assists with sixteen. Henrikson and Bixby would pick up thirteen digs each and Sophie Reimer (St. Charles, MO / Lutheran) would have twelve herself.
The Blue Jays will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, September 17th for day number two of the Hanover Invitational. They face the hosts Hanover College at 10 AM and end the day against Kenyon College at 12 PM.
