Carlinville, IL 10/5/2022- The Westminster College volleyball team took on the Blackburn College Beavers on Tuesday night. They would win 3-0 (25-14,25-18,27-25) and improve to 13-7 on the season and 7-1 in the SLIAC. The Beavers fall to 3-11 on the season and 2-4 in the SLIAC.
The Blue Jays asserted their dominance in the first two sets, but the Beavers would make it interesting in the third set and tried to fend off the sweep. Blackburn and Westminster would tie thirteen times and exchange the lead multiple times in the third set. The Beavers had the game tied at 25-25 then committed a service error to give the Blue Jays a set point. Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, MO/ Hickman) would get the kill and put the match away.
The Blue Jays were led by Wanyonyi who had fifteen kills. Malena Bixby (New Berlin, IL/ New Berlin) collected ten kills. Setter Kate Rable (Saint Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt South) added another twenty-one assists to her season total. Kristen Schrader (Imperial, MO / St. Pius X) led the team in digs with fourteen.
The Blue Jays will be back in action on Friday, October 7th when they take on the undefeated Greenville Panthers in a battle of the two top teams in the SLIAC. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM
