The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) recently announced the Westminster College Blue Jays baseball team is among the 2015-2016 honorees for its Team Academic Excellence Award. The award, giving for the first time this year, honors high school and college programs that post a team GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the academic year.
The 2016 Blue Jays recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.08 for the 2015-16 school year and was one of only 34 NCAA Division III teams in the nation to receive the award. They were the lone St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) team selected for this honor and the only NCAA Division III school in Missouri to earn the distinction.
Led by Coach Denny Hughes, the team finished the 2016 season with a 28-15 record and made the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the SLIAC Tournament.
