Westminster Volleyball Takes Two Wins, 8-0 in SLIAC

ST. LOUIS - Westminster volleyball overcame Greenville and Webster to win its 10th straight match and remain an undefeated 8-0 in SLIAC play.

"It was great to get an opportunity to see how we stack up against other top teams in the conference today," said Westminster Head Coach Curtis Madson. "Playing them back-to-back is a great challenge, and I'm proud of the ladies for how they rose to it and got the job done."

No set was won easy for the Blue Jays, and the first set of the match against Greenville set the tone for Westminster, who narrowly lost 25-23. The Blue Jays came back to win the second set, but gave up a tough third match 25-9.

They bounced back by winning the next to sets in dominant fashion, recording 12 and then 11 kills in each, to come away with their first win of the day. The squad posted a .304 kill percentage in the last set, their highest during the match, to solidify their victory.

Ashley Kistaitis led thte team with 14 kills. Kayla Reeg added 45 assists and 18 digs. Amanda Kiso continued her strong play at the net with six block assists and one solo block.

The second match against top-ranked Webster began in a similar way with the Blue Jays dropping set one 25-23.

The Blue Jays showed their resilience by taking the second set, and then coming back once again to win sets four and five. They again posted the top hitting percentage (.250) of either team in the fifth match to take the win.

Kistaitis again had 14 kills along with Hannah Marshall, the best mark for either team. Reeg recorded 56 assists while libero Bridget Ringwald added a strong defensive effort with 29 digs.

"We continue to show our grit and grind out five-set matches," said Madson. "We are getting to a point in the season where we are playing a lot of matches back-to-back. It takes a lot to continue to show up and perform every night at a high level."
