Westminster Men's Soccer Defeated By Simpson

Fulton, Mo. – The Westminster men's soccer team suffered a 7-2 defeat to Simpson College on Saturday. The Blue Jays are now 0-6.

The Storm established an early lead by scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Westminster defense was able to hold the Storm back for the next 23 minutes of gameplay. However, Simpson scored again in the 31st minute to go up 3-0.

Simpson scored another goal in the closing minutes of the first half and went into halftime up 4-0. The Storm controlled the half, outshooting the Blue Jays 14-2 and taking four corner kicks. Connor Bandre' (Ashland, Mo. / Southern Boone) made two saves for Westminster in the half.

Simpson picked up right where they left off, scoring a goal less than two minutes into the second half. The Storm would go on to score two more goals.

The Blue Jays got on the board in the 73rd minute thanks to a goal by Jephte Ngendo (Goma, Republic of the Congo) assisted by Freddy Nene (Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge).

Westminster scored again a minute later following a corner kick. Patrick Wisnewski (St. Louis, Mo. / John F. Kennedy Catholic) scored his third goal of the season and Colin Walsh (O'Fallon, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt South) recorded the assist.

Chase Vogt (Mattoon, Ill. / Mattoon) was in net for the Blue Jays in the second half and made five saves on eight shots.

Next weekend the Blue Jays will head out on the road to play Rose-Hulman at 4:00 p.m. Saturday Sept. 28.
