Westminster Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Westminster men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime on Saturday against Greenville. The Blue Jays are now 0-8 and 0-1 in conference play.

Both teams played well defensively in the first half. Greenville took eight shots in the half but could not put the ball past Westminster goalie Connor Bandre' who made four saves in the half. The Panther goalie made two saves in the half that came off shots by Patrick Wisnewski and Barrett Smith.

In the 71st minute Philip Udinyiwe broke the scoreless tie with a goal that was assisted by Freddy Nene. The goal was Udinyiwe's first of the season and Nene picked up his second assist on the year.

Greenville tied the game in the 80th minute following a yellow card on Westminster. The Panthers came close to taking the lead in the 88th minute but Bandre' was able to stop the Greenville header and record the save. The teams went into overtime tied at 1-1.

Just over a minute into the overtime period the Panthers were able to score the game-winning goal to defeat the Blue Jays 2-1.

Wisnewski led the Blue Jays with three shots. Bandre' finished the game with seven saves.

The Blue Jays will play again on Wednesday at Spalding at noon.
