The Westminster men's tennis team defeated Illinois College on Sunday to win their first match of the season, 8-1. The Westminster Blue Jays played Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday and fell 6-3. They are now 1-2 on the season.
Illinois College
The Blue Jays won the three doubles competitions, holding a 3-0 lead over Illinois College heading into singles play. The sophomore Adam Fuchs and senior Kyle Collins duo won in the no. one spot 9-7. In the two spot, sophomore Pete Hasenmueller and junior Resse Hicks won 8-1. Junior Grant Peterson and freshman Jacques Erasmus shut out Illinois College in the three spot, 8-0.
In singles play, Collins won the no. two spot 6-1, 6-4. Hasenmueller won the three spot with the scores 6-1 and 6-0. In the four spot, Hicks won 8-1. Peterson shut out Illinois College in the five spot, 8-0, and Erasmus won the six spot 9-7.
Nebraska Wesleyan
Fuchs and Collins won the three points for the Blue Jays in the Nebraska Wesleyan match. The Fuchs and Collins duo won the number one doubles spot with the score of 8-5. In singles play, Fuchs defeated Nebraska Wesleyan's Trevor Milburn in the number one spot, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6). Collins defeated Nebraska Wesleyan in the number two spot with the scores of 7-6 and 6-0.
The Blue Jays will begin conference play on Tuesday, March 22, with a home match versus Webster University starting at 4:00 pm.
