The Westminster men's tennis team placed fourth at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Tennis Tournament, ending their season with a 5-7 record.
The Blue Jays entered the tournament as the no. three seed with a 2-2 conference record. They played no. two Principia College in the opening round, but lost 5-1. From there, they went to play the loser of the other 11:00 am match, no. five Fontbonne University. The Blue Jays defeated Fontbonne, 5-1, sending them to the third place match against no. four Webster University. The Blue Jays played all nine matches with Webster, but fell 5-4.
The no. one doubles team, sophomore Adam Fuchs and senior Kyle Collins won the only point in the 5-1 loss to Principia College, 9-8.
Collins and Hasenmueller won the final two points needed to win the match. Collins won the no. two singles (6-0, 6-0), and Hasenmueller won in the no. three singles (6-1, 6-3).
In the third place match, the Blue Jays held a 2-1 lead over Webster heading into singles play. The Hasenmueller, Hicks duo on the no. two doubles team defeated their opponent 8-2, and the Peterson, freshman Brendan Bosewell team in the no. three doubles won 8-5.
Collins and Hasenmueller once again won their matches in singles play. Collins defeated his opponent, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5, and Hasenmueller won 6-2, 6-2. Peterson and Bosewell in the no. five and six spots took their matches into three sets, but each fell in their final set.
