Fulton, MO 12/1/2022- The Westminster College women's basketball team was back inside the friendly confines of the Historic Gym on Thursday night after three games on the road. They hosted a formidable opponent in perennial D3 powerhouse, the WashU Bears. The Blue Jays were game most of the night and the 67-52 final score does not reflect just how competitive the game was. The Blue Jays hung around and then the Bears pulled away late in the third quarter. WashU improves to 5-1 on the season with the win and Westminster falls to 1-4 on the year, losing their fourth game in a row in what has been a tough non-conference schedule.

Westminster started the game red-hot, making their first four out of five shots. The shot they missed led to an offensive rebound and a three-pointer from Maile Peck (Marshfield, MO / Marshfield). Annette Ramirez (Sarcoxie, MO / Sarcoxie) would score a layup on the next possession to give the Blue Jays a 9-4 lead in the game's opening stages and force a timeout by the Bears. After the timeout, the Bears went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-9 lead and they would not give it back the rest of the game. The Blue Jays threatened at times but saw the deficit grow from three to five to ten and as high as nineteen at one point, which would be the largest lead of the game. WashU would win the game with a final score of 67-52.

The Jays were led by Ramirez who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists on the day. Peck would also score in double-digits with 11 points, she also hauled in 3 rebounds.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, December 3rd as they look to break the losing streak when they take on Wartburg College at 1:00 PM inside the Historic Gym.
