Blue Jays Win Fourth Straight Game

Monmouth, IL 12/18/2022- The Westminster College women's basketball team took on the Monmouth College Scots on Saturday Night. The Blue Jays won a hard-fought game, 57-52. Westminster improves to 5-5 on the season and has won four games in a row. Monmouth drops to 5-6 on the year.

The game would come down to the wire as the game was tied 52-52 with 2:07 left to play. Aly Bullock (St. James, MO / St. James) made a layup to put the Jays up two with 56 seconds left in the game. The Scots began to foul to extend the game and sent Annette Ramirez (Sarcoxie, MO / Sarcoxie) to the free-throw line. She would miss the first attempt and make the second to put Westminster up three points. Monmouth would miss a three-pointer and Shelby Kurtz (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) came down with the defensive rebound and got fouled. She made both free throws to make it 57-52 with 16 seconds left. The Scots would call a timeout to advance the ball and draw up a play. Kurtz would cause a turnover by getting a steal and ending the game. Westminster won the game 57-52.

There were six ties and 12 lead changes in the game. The Blue Jays forced 18 turnovers and scored 12 points off them. They would go 10-14 from the charity stripe and the Scots went 5-10. Westminster shot 34% from the field and Monmouth shot 37%. Both teams would make five threes in the game.

Ramirez had a game-high 24 points, her third straight 20-point game. Kurtz would score 10 points and grab 8 rebounds. Bullock had six points coming off the bench.

The Blue Jays are riding high heading into the holiday break on a four-game winning streak. They will be back in action on Friday, December 30th when they host Central College in their final non-conference game. That game will tip off at 5:00 PM inside the Historic Gym.
