Fulton, MO-12/3/2022- The Westminster College women's basketball team hosted the Wartburg College Knights in a Saturday afternoon matinee at the Historic Gym. The game was tight for the entire first half until the Knights went on a 9-0 run, hitting three straight three-pointers in the final 1:32 of the first half to take a 43-32 lead at the intermission. The Knights would pull away in the second half and win the game 81-66. With the victory, the Knights improve to 5-2 on the season and the Blue Jays fall to 1-6 and lost their fifth straight game.

Wartburg got out to a quick start, taking an early 8-2 lead. The Blue Jays would come back to tie it 9-9 after a basket from Shelby Kurtz (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton). Caragan Lockard (Eolia, MO / Clopton) would give the Blue Jays a 12-11 lead after making a free throw with 3:27 left in the first quarter. The Knights would hit a three on their next possessions to take the lead back. The teams would trade baskets and the first quarter would end, with Wartburg leading 20-18.

The second quarter was like the first, with both teams going back and forth. And it was looking like a slugfest all game long after Aly Bullock (St. James, MO / St. James) made a free throw to make it 34-32 with the Blue Jays trailing and 1:41 left in the first half. The Knights would rattle off three straight three-pointers at the end of the quarter and headed into halftime up ten, 43-32. The Knights would outscore the Blue Jays 23-14 in the second quarter.

The Knights scored eight straight unanswered points and go on a 12-2 run overall forcing a Westminster timeout. They would lead 59-38 with 3:47 left in the third quarter. After the timeout, the Blue Jays scored four in a row and looked like they were about to rally, but it was snuffed out by the Knights.

The fourth quarter saw the Knights pull away and put the game away, winning 81-66 over the Blue Jays.

Kurtz led the way along with Annette Ramirez (Sarcoxie, MO / Sarcoxie) both scoring 19 points and pulling in 6 rebounds each. Ramirez would also have 4 steals and 3 assists in the game.
