Westminster Volleyball Defeats Principia in Regular Season Finale

ELSAH, Ill. - The Westminster volleyball team lost to MacMurray in three sets on Saturday before defeating Principia 3-0. The Blue Jays finish the regular season with a record of 17-8 overall and 15-3 in conference.

In the first game the Blue Jays fell to the Highlanders by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 27-25. The loss ended Westminster's six game winning streak. In the first set MacMurray was trailing late 22-20 before scoring last five points of the set to win 25-22. The Highlanders took the second set after 25-18 after hitting .406 as a team. In the third set Westminster trailed 21-19 and retook the lead after scoring four consecutive points. However, their momentum was quickly stopped by MacMurray and the Highlanders closed out the match with 27-25 win in the third set.

Westminster won in the three sets over Principia in their second game of the day. The Blue Jays defeated the Panthers 25-8 in the first set, 25-19 in the second set and 25-17 in the third set.
Eryka Wanyonyi recorded 10 kills and 13 digs in the match for Westminster. Wanyonyi was also one of four Blue Jays to recorded at least 10 digs. She was joined by Teresa Becker, who led all players with 22, Erica Schrader, who had 10, and Ashley Kistaitis, who also recorded 10 digs. The Blue Jays recorded 11 service aces in the match.

Kistaitis totaled 25 kills on the day and Wanyonyi recorded 22. Becker finished the day with 35 digs and 58 assists.

The Blue Jays will compete as the No. 2 seed in the SLIAC tournament next Saturday hosted by Greenville. They will face off against No. 3 seed Webster at 4 p.m.
