Men's Basketball Falls to Blackburn, 79-54

The Westminster men's basketball team fell to Blackburn College on Wednesday evening, 79-54. The Blue Jays are now 9-13 on the season and 9-6 in conference play. 

Blackburn started the game with an 8-0 run spanning over four minutes. Junior Zach Nelson laid one in to put the Blue Jays on the board, but Blackburn marked a 7-0 run to take a 17-5 lead. Sophomore Nick Carlos put in a three-pointer and a layup to bring the game within eight, and a jump shot from sophomore Tanner Cochran brought the game to 20-14 with 6:36 to play in the first half. The Blue Jays were unable to bring the game closer than seven points in the remainder of the half, sending the game into halftime with Blackburn leading 38-28.

Sophomore Romo Tabb opened up the second half with a layup to bring the game within eight. Blackburn then completed a 10-1 run over the next six minutes to take the 48-31 lead. Blackburn continued to extend their lead and won the game 79-54.

Carlos led the Blue Jay offense with nine points while junior Tanner Gentges added eight. Nelson, senior Aaron Jackson Jr., and Gentges each pulled down four boards. 

The Blue Jays host Webster University on Saturday, February 13, for their second to last home game. Tip-off is at 3:00 pm.
