Westminster Men's Soccer Tops Fontbonne with Last Minute Goal

ST. LOUIS - With 47 seconds remaining in the second overtime of the match, Josh Udinyiwe headed in a ball off of a corner kick to give Westminster the 1-0 win over Fontbonne. The assist came from Justin Gerdiman on the corner. 

The Blue Jays improve to 4-9-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

"It was a hard game like it always is against Fontbonne," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "They have a great work rate and we did a great job of matching that for decent stretches of the game. At the end, we took advantage on a set piece and got a huge win against a really good side. This will definitely be a big confidence boost for our guys going forward."

The match featured a balanced attack from both sides, with Fontbonne outshooting Westminster 17-12. The Blue Jays got off to a slow start offensively in the first half, managing just three shots. The team doubled their offensive production in the second half to record six shots, and another three in overtime which included the game-winner.

Of Westminster 12 shots, four were in goal, including two from Brandon Rettke and two from P. Udinyiwe, including the game-winning header. 

Connor Bandre' was solid between the posts for all 109 minutes, making seven saves to preserve the Blue Jay shutout and earn the win. 

Westminster travels to Greenville Saturday to continue to fight for a spot in the SLIAC tournament. The match is set for 2 p.m.
