Blue Jays Run In Border War Championships At Principia College

Elsah, IL, 10/8/21 - The Westminster College men's cross country team competed at the Border War XC College Championship hosted by Principia College on Friday late afternoon.  The Blue Jays do not have enough team members to qualify for a team score. The Blue Jays were one of three SLIAC programs at the meet.

Freshman Michael Giles (Herman, MO / Herman) recorded a time of 30:46.70 which was good for 62nd place in a race that included runners from SLIAC foes Fontbonne University and the hosts Principia College. Giles would outrun all of the Fontbonne runners and all but one of the Principia competitors.  The top Principia runner ran a 30:32.56 just over 14 seconds ahead of him.

Freshman Lane Martin (Lexington, MO / Lexington) recorded an 8K time of 31:53.23  which was good for a 69th place finish in the race.

Sophomore Jacob Marshall (Columbia, MO. / Hallsville) finished with a time of 34:24.62 over the 8K course.  That time was good for an 85th place finish.

The Blue Jays will be back on the course next Friday October 15th when they travel to SLIAC rival Greenville University to compete in the Greenville Classic. The race is set to start at 4:00 p.m. It will be their final opportunity to compete before the 2021 SLIAC Conference Chapionships on October 30th.
