Four Blue Jays Place at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. – Four members of the Westminster wrestling team placed on Saturday at the Missouri Valley open hosted by Missouri Valley College.

Brock Davis lost a 6-3 decision in his first match of the day but tore his way through the consolation bracket to take third-place in the 125 weight class with three pins and two wins by decision.

Dalton Landreth made it to the quarterfinals in the 133 bracket before dropping an 8-2 decision to Hayden Williams (Unat. Missouri). Landreth pinned his first two opponents in the consolation bracket and then advanced to the third-place match on a medical forfeit. In the third-place bout, Landreth had a rematch against William and avenged his prior defeat with a 13-2 major decision to take bronze.

In the 141 bracket Evan Winder was defeated by tech fall in his first match before winning his next two matches in the consolation bracket. Winder loss in the consolation semifinals sent him to the fifth-place match where he won by tech fall 19-4 to finish the day 3-2.

Sean Sax dominated his first three matches in the 149 bracket with two tech falls and a 45-second pin. In the semifinals, Sax won a 10-7 decision over Joe Eads (William Penn) to advance to the finals against Mitchell Bohlken (Missouri). In the championship match, Sax outmaneuvered Bohlken to take first place with a 9-6 decision.

Daryl VanNostrand went 2-2 on the day for Westminster at the 197.

The Blue Jays will compete next at the NCAA Division III Regionals on the weekend of Feb. 29-March 1.
