Sax Places Fifth at NCAA Regionals

DUBUQUE, Iowa. – Westminster College wrestler Sean Sax placed fifth in the 149-pound weight class at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional this weekend.

On Saturday Sax won his first-round match against Greg Krulus of Dubuque in sudden victory. Sax finished the day by pinning Collin Stilson (Buena Vista) to advance to the semifinals on Sunday. In the semifinals, Sax dropped a 13-6 decision to Daniel Ruiz of host school Loras and was sent to the consolation bracket. Sax then suffered a narrow 6-5 defeat to Josh Gerke (Coe) before winning the fifth-place match by medical forfeit.

Dalton Landreth (133) pinned Tristan Powell (Huntingdon) in his first match to earn three points for Westminster before suffering two losses. Landreth finishes the season with a 14-8 record.

Daryl VanNostrand went 1-2 at 184, pinning Triston Richardson of Augustana (IL) in 58 seconds. VanNostrand finishes the year with a record of 6-5

At 285 Kobe Kaminski also went 1-2, winning a 7-2 decision over MacMurray's Chad Grimm.

Overall Westminster finished 14th out of 18 teams with a total of 18 points.
