Fulton, MO 9/3/2023- In an exciting season opener at the new Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium, the Westminster College men's soccer team faced off against the Central College Dutch. This year, the Blue Jays started the season with a new head coach at the wheel, Brian O'Connor, and the Blue Jays look to improve on a 3-11-5 record from last season.

Central would strike first scoring a goal in the 25th minute of the first half and taking a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. They would keep the pressure on in the second half when they scored a goal in the 54th minute, extending their lead to 2-0.

Moments later, Blue Jay junior forward Adam Luetkemeyer looked to answer with a shot on goal. He managed to break through Central's defense, taking a well-placed shot that forced a great save from the Dutch goalkeeper. This was one of four shots on goal that Westminster would generate in the second half after not having any in the first half.

The Blue Jays battled hard but were unable to find the back of the net, and Central held strong defensively. Ultimately, the Dutch secured a 2-0 victory over the Blue Jays in the season opener and the inaugural game inside the brand-new Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium.

Westminster will get another chance to get in the win column as they take on Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois to cap off Labor Day weekend on Monday, September 4th. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM
