Fulton, MO 9/10/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team was back home on Sunday as the Rhodes College Lynx came to town in a Sunday afternoon matinee. The two teams would battle back and for 82 minutes. The Lynx would score two quick goals within ninety seconds of each other and headed back to Memphis with a 2-0 victory over the Blue Jays. They improved to 3-0-1 on the season and the Blue Jays, still looking for their first win of the season, fell to 0-4.

The 2-0 scoreline does not tell the entire story. The game remained closely contested for most of the time. Rhodes had pressured the Blue Jays most of the game, taking seven shots in the first half and nine more in the second half. Blue Jay goalie Toby Hughes made seven saves to keep Westminster in the game.

The Blue Jays could only get one shot off in the first half, but in the second half, they would control the ball and fire off nine shots. The Lynx goalie would make four saves and the Blue Jays would get unlucky as two shots would hit off the post. Ethan Pfaff attempted a shot in front of the net, but a Lynx defender blocked it, and then the goalie saved Kaedyn Royer's shot of the rebound. The Blue Jays would have six shots on goal but were just unable to find the back of the net.

In the 82nd minute, the Lynx scored a goal from a corner kick that bounced off multiple players. Then ninety seconds later, Rhodes would organize a fast break chance and score another quick goal to go up 2-0 in the final seven minutes of play.

The Blue Jays will kick off against William Woods University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13th.
