Blue Jays Lose 5-0 To Undefeated Prairie Wolves

Lincoln, NE 9/8/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a match against the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan University on Friday. The Prairie Wolves' high-octane offense would put pressure on the Blue Jays defense early and often as they would on to win the game 5-0 and improve to 3-0-1 on the season. The Blue Jays dropped to 0-3 and are still looking for their first win of the season.

The Prairie Wolves would score seven minutes and twenty-five seconds into the game and did not look back. They would put a staggering sixteen shots on goal and Blue Jay goalkeeper Toby Hughes was able to parry away eleven of them. Unfortunately, four more of those sixteen shots would find the back of the net, with Nebraska Wesleyan scoring three in the first half and tagging on two more at the end of the second half.

The Blue Jays would generate some offense and were able to get three shots off on goal with all three of them coming in the second half. Joel Litten took a shot on goal to start the second half and looked to get Westminster some momentum in the 49th minute. Travis Bieg would try to start another rally when he took a shot in the 61st minute. Braedon Cairer would have another good look at the goal, but the Prairie Wolves keeper was able to stop all three shots and preserve a clean sheet for Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Blue Jays won't have to wait long to get their first win of the 2023 season as they return home to Fulton and host the Rhodes College Lynx on Sunday, September 10th with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM at Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium.
