Blue Jays Defeat Patriots 5-0 For First Win Of The Season

Springfield, Mo 9/26/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team traveled to Springfield, Missouri for a Tuesday afternoon matinee against Baptist Bible College. The Patriots and Blue Jays would play a scoreless first half, with neither team finding the back of the net. Then, in the second half, the floodgates would open as the Jays scored five goals in the second half and won the game 5-0. Westminster improves to 1-7 on the season and Baptist Bible falls to 0-7. 

The Blue Jays defense would only allow the Patriots to get off two shots in the game and none of them were on goal. The Blue Jays offense would control the entire game, firing off forty-two shots in total. They would have twenty-one shots in each half and twenty-five of them were on goal. The Patriots goalie would make twenty saves, but five goals would get through. 

Travis Bieg would score two goals in the game. The first came in the 53rd minute. The second came in the 56th minute with an assist from Geoffrey Schultz and Jack Hughes. Braedon Cairer scored the first goal of his career in the 60th minute to put the Blue Jays up 3-0. Nathan Naumann would get in on the action and score his first goal in the 74th minute off an assist from Chase Johnson. Niklas Olsson would cap things off in the 83rd minute, scoring the Blue Jays 5th and final goal. 

The Blue Jays are back in action on Saturday, September 26, when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Webster University. The game will kick off at 7:00 PM.
