Fulton, Mo 9/13/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team hosted cross town William Woods University in a Wednesday night showdown. The Blue Jays and Owls would battle for ninety minutes in a match that was very physical, with a total of four yellow cards and twenty-seven fouls. In the end, a penalty kick would give William Woods the 2-1 victory as they improved to 5-3-1 on the season. The Blue Jays are still looking for their first win of 2023, falling to 0-5.

Junior Adam Luetkemeyer would score a beautiful goal from distance to stun the Owls and give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Westminster would continue to pressure and frustrate the William Woods defense, putting up a total of five shots in the first half. Kaedyn Royer almost put the Blue Jays up 2-0 after a beautiful ball into the box on a free kick from midfield. Royer would get to it and attempt a header that just missed the crossbar.

Davis Herbst would get the start in goal for the Blue Jays and would make five saves in the game. The Owls would put up fourteen shots total in the game with seven of them being on target. They would tie the game in the 54th minute and then would capitalize on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to take a 2-1 lead.

Westminster would only create three shot attempts in the second half but all three were threatening and had the potential to tie the game up, credit to the Owls keeper for making the saves. The Blue Jays would also create four corner kick chances in the second half to keep the pressure on. William Woods was able to hang on long enough to walkout of Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium with a 2-1 victory.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Sunday, September 17th when they host the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. That game will kick-off at 2:00 PM.
